The mafia Iruma is finally real, and it has a date. NHK dropped a main visual, six character visuals and the full staff list on October 27, confirming that Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun: IruMafia Edition airs on NHK General starting January 4, 2027, for 12 episodes. The slot is Monday at 11 PM in Japan, which works out to 7:30 PM in India. Here's the twist behind the camera: Tatsunoko Production is animating, not BN Pictures. Keiichiro Kawaguchi, the director of Spy Classroom and Classroom for Heroes, is in the chair, and Kazuyuki Fudeyasu moves over from the main show to handle series composition.

Why does anyone care? Because the franchise is stacked right now. The main series' fourth season started airing in April 2026, and a movie is on the way. IruMafia Edition flips the whole premise. Iruma isn't adopted into a school life. He's thrown into the mafia underworld, and Sullivan runs the family as the Don. Same faces, sharper suits, meaner edges. Hiroja has drawn the manga since 2023, and it moved to Weekly Shonen Champion in December 2025, so there's plenty of source material waiting.

So what's the fandom saying? Two camps, mostly. Camp one is thrilled the voice cast is back: Ayumu Murase as Iruma, Daisuke Ono as Kalego, Ryohei Kimura as Alice, Ayaka Asai as Clara, Saori Hayami as Ameri and Mitsuki Saiga as Opera. Camp two is side-eyeing the studio swap. New studio, new look, and the teaser art already reads darker than anything the main anime did. My hot take? Good. A mafia story in Demon School's candy-bright palette would feel wrong. Then there's streaming. No international platform has been announced. Crunchyroll carries the main series, so a pickup looks like the obvious bet, but that's a guess, not news.

Realistic expectations, then. Twelve episodes should cover the early manga, with the slum origin and Iruma building his crew. Don't expect the main show's softness, since the manga hits harder, but the comedy isn't going anywhere. Expect a streaming announcement before January, though nothing's confirmed. Expect the cast to carry a lot of the charm. And expect the main-series crowd to argue about this for three months straight. That's half the fun.
