White Fox just made it official: *How I Became King by Eating Monsters* is getting a TV anime, and it's coming in 2027. The announcement dropped on October 9 with a teaser visual, plus celebration art from light novel illustrator Shiba and manga artist Karin Suzuragi. No premiere date yet. No director, no cast, no streaming partner. Still, a green light is a green light. A series that has been quietly stacking readers since 2022 is finally leaving the light novel shelf and heading for everybody's watchlist.

So why should you care? Mars, the twelve year old first prince of Farune, survives poisoned dinners by sneaking into a monster-infested forest and eating whatever he can kill. Then a red-haired swordswoman named Cassandra shows up, tells him he has promise, and lets him in on the secret: monster meat makes you stronger. From there it snowballs into assassination plots, wars and a whole lot of kingdom building. Daken started the story on Shosetsuka ni Naro in January 2022, and GCN Bunko began the print run in September 2023. The manga at Young Animal Zero has two volumes out, Cross Infinite World handles the English novels, and volume seven of the Japanese novels lands October 20. Perfect timing, honestly.

Now for the fandom side. The title alone is half the marketing, and the questions floating around the announcement coverage are the obvious ones: who directs, who gets cast, and can the studio nail the tone? That last one is the real fight. This story plays a grim survival setup for laughs, with an overpowered kid failing upward by accident, and anime either nails that balance or faceplants. White Fox is the other talking point. It's the studio behind Re:Zero, which is deep in its fourth season, and it also has Magical Explorer in the pipeline. Stretched schedule? Maybe. My hot take: this premise doesn't need flashy, it needs sharp comic timing and monster fights with some crunch. Manga readers will also argue over whether Suzuragi's art or Shiba's designs should be the visual north star. Expect that debate to get loud.

What should you actually expect? Don't bank on a January slot. With a packed White Fox calendar, a spring or later 2027 premiere feels likelier, and yes, that's a guess, not a leak. First up, probably staff and cast reveals, then a PV before the year wraps. Plan on a single cour covering Mars's early days: the forest, Cassandra's training, the first dangerous steps toward the throne. Pacing will decide everything. If the adaptation commits to the silly, the survival tension and the bloodier fights, it could be a sleeper hit. Keep the hype loud and the expectations sane.
